Amazing Tabby and the Cat’s eye – Is this for Real?

The cat’s eye is a very powerful gem used to harness the divine and mystical powers of planet Ketu – the Dragon’s anti-node. It is a lovely chatoyant gem that displays an effect akin to the opening and closing of the eye of a cat!

Some time ago, a beautiful dhoomket, a smoky grey Cat’s Eye was made into a talismanic ring and sent to a patron in Denmark. The delighted patron sent across some amazing pictures that we are sharing with you.

Never have we seen such an acquiescing and obliging model – take a look at the calm and mesmerized tabby that poses with a natural ease, even looking on at the talisman!!

The parallel is not amazing that in ancient Egypt, Bastet was the highly revered Cat goddess. She is often depicted as a goddess with the head of a cat. Her sculptures were made of a material called alabaster.

Ever sharp and alert, she was regarded as a great protector and would even accompany the Sun god Ra everyday in his journey across the sky, looking out for him, protecting him from his enemies.

Nothing escaped her eye!

And this is where in ancient lore, the mystical, perceptive and protective powers of the cat’s eye gemstone also find attribution to. Maheep Kapoor is a name synonymous with couture jewelry. She is a name, well established and admired for creating beautiful pieces, especially those using precious gemstones.

Speaking Exclusively to Gemstoneuniverse, she reminisced the beginnings of her journey with precious gemstones and jewelry. I love jewelry and especially one with gemstones. It all started with designing a few pieces for myself, which people around me and my friends admired greatly. It later got translated into orders for designs from friends and before long without my even realising it; it became a full fledged career.

As with all else, Maheep says that she has evolved over time and so have her preferences. She now works only with precious stones “Rubies, diamonds, emeralds, sapphires etc. concentrate only on creating heirloom pieces classic, solid pieces, something that has value which can be handed down generations. I did use a lot of semi-precious gems but that was years ago. As I understand gemstones, the value and the sensible choice lie in precious stones only.”

Emeralds are one of the most gorgeous gemstones in the mineral world. The alluring green stone is quite brittle and finding a large, one-piece emerald and fashioning it into a gem ready for setting is in itself a daunting task.

This rare beauty takes a very interesting turn and is much rarer still if it displays chatoyancy. A catâ€™s eye emerald is a rarity. Just to get to see one is tremendous good luck.

Take a look at this gigantic catâ€™s eye emerald cut en cabochon. This stunning behemoth of 12.56 carats from the famed Muzo mines of Colombia sits mounted in a white gold and has flawless diamonds encircling it and accenting it down in a double row into the shank.

The powers of Mercury, the god of trade, communication and well, numbers get combined with the intuitive wisdom of the Dragonâ€™s antinode in this one superbly crafted ring. Not to mention the influence of lux and aesthete brought along by diamonds, signifying the powers of Venus. The owner has a lot going for him/ her!

What makes this a spectacle? Well, there may be some catâ€™s eye emeralds that you may encounter in the mineral kingdom, but this one takes the cake as it displays five superb chatoyant bands, opening and closing as light falls on it.

There are very fine tubular channels/ inclusions, occurring naturally, also known as silk that run within the gem. When light falls on the gem, the sharp bands of light are formed perpendicular to these hollow tubular structures.

Catâ€™s eye emeralds are extremely rare and are known to come in only from Colombia or Brazil. More often than not they exist in paler shades only. Chatoyant emeralds are finished as cabochons for they help to accentuate the display of this effect.

In 2001, Christies closed the sale of a catâ€™s eye emerald cabochon from Brazil of 6. 89carats at a whopping USD ($)81,707!

No wonder that the perfume with a retail value of anywhere between $35 to $75, now is one of a kind, collectors item – all because of the gemstones with the asking price at $1 million!

The DKNY fashion house has collaborated with the celebrated Beverly Hills jewellery designer Martin Katz, who came up with the design and crafted it. The 14 Karat gold bottle has the New York Skyline around its diameter and is studded with 2,700 white diamonds and 183 golden yellow sapphires.

The bottle sits on a circular base with all the continents carved on it and each continent studded with the precious stones that originate there. The base has a 1.65 carats turquoise Paraiba tourmaline from Brazil, a 7.18 carat Oval Cabochon Sapphire from Sri Lanka, 15 Round Brilliant Vivid Pink Diamonds from Australia weighing 1.28 carats, 4 Round Rose Cut Diamonds weighing 0.32 carats, a 3.07 carat Oval Cut Ruby and a 4.03 carat Pear Shape Rose Cut Diamond.

The bottle cap features a 2.43 carat flawless vivid yellow canary diamond. The extravagant perfume bottle will tour the world – from London, to Mexico to Malaysia, allowing admirers a close view before being sold to perfume enthusiasts and connoiseurs.

Proceeds from the sale will be generously donated to the Action Against Hunger global charity. The humanitarian organization carries out life-saving programs in more than 40 countries worldwide and assists some five million people each year.

Note 1. The tourmaline from the Mina da Batalha in the Federal Brazilian State of Paraiba, are small, rare and precious. Their spirited turquoise to green colours, are not found in any other gemstone in the world. Brazil is famed for its tourmalines. Members of this splendid gemstone group come in practically all the colours of the rainbow. The radiant turquoise was finally added too with the discovery of the precious deposit in Paraiba.

Note 2. Rose cut diamond is one which has faceting done in such a manner that the base is flat (unlike the usual brilliant cut, which has a crown with a distinct table and a pointed pavilion) and the crown has triangular facets rising to form a pointed top.

Vedic Puja of Gemstones-The vital purity portion of consecration to get the most powerful results!

The Gemstoneuniverse Difference!

Consecration, by dictionary definition refers to setting apart for sacred use. When we say that your talisman viz. a ring, a pendant or any other talisman is consecrated and energized in your name, it refers to a process where by the talisman is set apart in the scheme of universe to be of singular use to you and only you. The talisman’s vital energy is boosted over several times by Vedic mantras and it’s intrinsic energies are synced with YOUR person, specifically.

Just like fingerprints are unique and your DNA is unique, the combination of your name, nakshatra (constellation) and rashi/ rasi (moon sign) collectively carry the coding of your spiritual identity, your real DNA! When a talisman is made, the process itself is started at an auspicious time that would be conducive to realization of your objectives, using electional astrology. Once the talisman is ready, it is then consecrated and energized!

By consecration is meant the essential process of the shodashopchar puja. According to the Hindu sacred texts only the shodashopchar puja/ consecration of 16 sacred steps is regarded as the complete prayer ritual. Before beginning of the puja, a sankalpa (stricture akin to a sacred oath) is taken chanting the name, nakshtra and rasi of the individual for whom the talisman has been made and objectives are spelled clearly for attaining which, the individual desires to wear the talisman of establish it in a sacred space.

A symbolic representation of the presiding deity of the gemstone talisman is also established and offered pujas.

The shodashopchar puja essentially means the prayer ceremony of 16 rituals, namely:

-Aavahan or invocation of the deity

-Aasan or giving a worthy aasan or seat

-Paadyam or washing the feet, as has been done traditionally for ages, to welcome a guest.

-Arghyam or offering of holy water sprinkled on the head or given for washing the hands of

-the guest – in this case, the deity ruling the Gem

-Aachaman or purifying of self so as to be worthy of conducting the puja

– Snanam or bathing the deity with water, milk, curds, ghee (clarified butter), honey and sugar (these are then collected as panchamrata/ panchamrita (five nectars) and distributed as prasadam). The deity is again given a cleansing bath with Vermillion, tumeric and flowers mixed in water one by one.

– Vastra or adorning the deity in suitable clothing

-Yagnopaveeta or donning the sacred thread for the deity

-Gandham or applying sandalwood paste

– Alankaar or dressing up the deity as is deserving of a regal entity, with all ornaments, flowers and ornaments. (You will note in the video that the temple doors are closed by the priests for adorning the deity in private.)

-Pushpa or offering of flowers to the deity

-Dhoop or offering incense sticks

-Deepam or offering a lit ghee lamp to the deity

-Naivedyam or offering food to the deity (Please note that the priests prepare/cook this prasadam strictly on their own observing all. It is not got / bought from anywhere or anyone. Only the fruits may be bought.)

-Tambulam or offering paan(betel) leaves and betel nut

-Neerajanam or offering the final aarti

In essence, the powers of the deity are invoked as requested to make abode in the talisman and work for gain of objectives and general welfare of the individual in question. At all times the appropriate mantras are chanted. It is a holistic process that is meticulously carried out at our end so that all you have to do is to wear the gem see your life turn around for the better.

The pujas doneÂ is carried out by Vedic priests who have been rigorously trained at the Vedic Paathshaalas (vedic schools) from their childhood. Humanitarianism is the Religion the World Needs

The Jewellers Association, Bengaluru (JAB) deserves a real round of applause as it is working towards constructing dormitories for mentally challenged senior citizens in their Biggest Social Cause Project. It is already running an initiative called Sai Vrundavan, a home for deaf and dumb rural children. There is also a special school running under their aegis for the same children.

With no support and abandonment as a major issue, the mentally challenged senior citizens are often found in very pitiable state, living at the mercy of fate. JAB is building dormitories to house 18 men and 18 women to begin with.

JAB is expecting to complete and inaugurate the building by the end of August 2011. Astro Journey, Gemstone Universe’s Parent organisation is proud to be a contributor to the cause. We wholeheartedly appreciate all efforts that are humanitarian in nature.

Over the last one and half year, Gemstone Universe has presented before you 2-3 rings/ talismans from among those shipped out to the patrons on a daily basis. Not only that, each finished product’s details have been accompanied by a link to the photograph of the gemstone, as it was, before it was set into a talisman.

We gave you details about the loose gemstone to be viewed on the website, how it looked once set in the talisman, the price along with special features and benefits of each piece along with the Gemologists notes. These talismans had already been shipped out. These were featured so that you had an opportunity to realistically assess, compare and evaluate real time about Gem quality, photographs, prices etc.

Today there are close to a 1000 Gemstones on the Blog as finished pieces in a short span of 15 months!

One of the trickiest and the most time consuming photography is that of the gemstones. The difficulty increases manifold when the demand is for pictures that are of jyotish quality.

At Gemstone Universe, tremendous care is taken to provide most accurate pictures showing features of each gemstone with great clarity and precision, so that cut, color, clarity and aesthetics can be adjudged to the best possible levels.

Bruno Cupillard, one of the famed gem photographers says on his site. The biggest challenge in taking these photos is to control depth of field for sharpness desired. In some gems, colored areas, or inclusions can be seen inside the stone. We meet the areas that change color and size when you move the stone.

Each gemstone has special optical properties and physical characteristics that need to be highlighted and this takes great amount of patience, precision and care. And this makes photographing each gem a daunting task.
